Mas Aya – “Quiescence”

Marking the first vinyl album after a string of excellent tapes, percussionist / producer Brandon Valdivia jumps to Telephone Explosion for an album as Mas Aya. The Picastro / Cosmic Range alum is skewing a bit more atmospheric than he has with those outfits, inhabiting a world of soft drum streaks, water vapor flute curls, and slowly undulating tones. “Quiescence” is a nearly eight minute meditation that cascades down the mind like cool ripples of water. Constrained, calm, with a dawn-light quality of rebirth, the track should appeal to those who’ve been channeling the Inner Islands catalog or the new one from Green-House.
