Kevin Coleman – “Mammut Americanum”

A lovely new record out of Centripetal Force this morning, who are already having a heavy start to the year. This one comes from Nashville’s Kevin Coleman. Blending Appalachian folk and bluegrass with headier strains, Coleman digs through the same fertile earth as Joseph Allred, Magic Tuber Stringband, or The Black Twig Pickers. The first cut from his upcoming album, Imaginary Conversations, rolls through the verdant Tennessee hills soaking in the sun. The record features a few local contemporaries as well, and a few familiar names, with Trevor Nikrant of Styrofoam Winos lending mandolin, pedal steel, and synth alongside his mixing duties on the record. Scott Mattingly (In Place) and Jack Dungan also lend a hand. The new record finds its way out March 19th from Centripetal Force.
