Julie Doiron & Dany Placard – “Mayo”

Avatar

Last year brought news of Julie Doiron’s new solo album, a tender, boundlessly buoyant collection. She wastes no time keeping the momentum rolling, embarking on a new project with her partner Dany Placard. The album embraces an emotional ache, recorded during isolation, and imbued with a yearning for connection. Rolled in more grit than her solo outing, the first taste of the record, “Mayo” pairs corroded tension with a reckless air. The song is constantly picking itself up only to knock itself back down. The frustration is woven into every moment of the song’s three-minute mile, slumping to a slow as it crashes to a close. The album, Julie & Dany is out April 29th on Simone Records. ‘
