Joan Shelley – “Home”

Avatar

The singles from the upcoming Joan Shelley album, The Spur, cast a shadow of an album that’s deeply rooted in restoration, anchored in a feeling of safe harbor. Burnt out by touring, the album celebrates the homestead, and no song better encapsulates those feelings than “Home.” As the title might imply, the song feels lived in and languorous. It’s a comfort song, as faded and gentle as a favorite sweater, but there’s a charm to that comfort. Shelley makes it feel like a song that’s always been humming just below the surface, aloft on a scent that’s instantly disarming. The Spur is out June 24th from No Quarter Records.
