Jim White & Marisa Anderson – “Bitterroot Valley Suite I: Water”

Site favorite Marisa Anderson returns today with a new album on the way, collaborating once again with percussionist Jim White. The pair have long since embarked on collaborations that have brought the best out in each other, and the first taste of Swallowtail shows no signs of that collective spirit flagging. The first cut shared is the opening portion of the album’s central suite, entitled “Bitterroot Valley Suite I: Water.” Over White’s rippling rapids of percussive patter, Marisa bands her strings to the light and lap of the stream, a piece that feels alive with motion. The suite expands into further explorations of natural elements — Tree and Wind. The new album, Swallowtail, arrives May 10th on Thrill Jockey.
