Two RSTB faves paired up last month for a sunset-soaked single that hit on Bandcamp Friday. On the eve of this month’s download holiday, Young Guv and James Matthew VII give their cowboy disco strummer a visual component, pairing the song’s pillowy smoothness with a UHF-effects heavy broadcast from somewhere between ’75 and eternity. The song underpins their late night harmonies with a honey-dipped jangle, urging the listener into a flood of longing. While the song is practically dipped in doubt, the pang of the past is buffered somewhat by the golden hour framing that the pair pursue. Ben from Guv has been dabbling heavy in country saunter of late, and I can only hope that this is the edge of a larger album in the works that takes the same tack. For now, the few singles will suffice quite nicely.
