Guruguru Brain Wash 2
Gururguru Brain has been a constant source of some of my favorite psychedelic gems from the last few years. The label started 10 years ago with a digital comp called Guruguru Brain Wash, a round up of Japan’s best underground artists at the time. To mark the anniversary, the label is offering a follow-up to the compilation, this time expanding their reach further into the Asian underground, showcasing works from Taiwan, India, China, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia. The collection is packed with new voices that range from folk, to ambient, to the label’s signature psych scorch. Two big standouts from the comp come from Indonesian outfit GUU, who offer blistering psychedelics with a polyrhythmic push, and India’s YAAN, who dive deep into psychedelic folk fissures. The compilation, Guruguru Brain Wash 2, is out today, with vinyl to come in late July.
