“Under No Nation” tipped off listeners to the new GOAT album out later this month, but this is the unimpeachable single from the album. Feeling like a Bow Wow Wow tune, albeit darker and more muscular than the band would ever lean, the song capitalizes on the Burundi beat that drove BWW and The Ants to New Wave fame. GOAT changes things up from their 80s forbears with a heavier haze of guitars that growl through the open-air ambiance that they create between rhythm and vocals. They capture the spirit, though, with fuzz bass and the pound of drums certainly inducing the dance directive of the title. A few rolls of piano and a desert twang ground into the solo make this one of the most immediate offerings from the Swedish outfit in years. The band’s new album Oh Death is out October 21st from Rocket Recordings.
