Glenn Donaldson – “Uncloudy Mind”

Gotta keep an eye buried on the Reds, Pinks, and Purples feed because Glenn’s always sneaking singles in there — a repository of bittersweet bliss. This week a trio of new tracks appeared, anchored by the clock-punching anthem, “Slow Torture of an Hourly Wage,” a song that puts a bit of a salve on the wounds for of all of us who run the wheel. The slightly burnt filament of “Uncloudy Mind” moves away from the jangles while echoing some of the denser textures that crop up on Summer at Lands End. The song, like some of Donaldson’s best, is hung on a mixture of ennui and angst. It’s got a lovely simmer. He caps the bunch with a more propulsive pace, finding an easy kinship with the works of Business of Dreams or solo David West. The new single is out now, but these don’t always stick around, so I’d grab it while its fresh.
