Elkhorn & Mike Gangloff – “East Dauphin Suite”

Two RSTB favorites connect for a new album out soon on the venerable VHF. Elkhorn have long been a staple around here, weaving heady ragas and lysergic folk that makes good use of 12-string acoustic and electrics doused in ozone. Gangloff has hung around quite a bit as well — as part of Black Twig Pickers, Eight Point Star, and on an excellent solo outing last year. He joined Jesse and Drew for a run of summer dates last year and thankfully the tape was running at their show at 2223 Fish in Philadelphia. The album’s comprised of two long takes, one of which you can here below. “East Dauphin Suite” lets the guitars tangle among the clouds before Gangloff’s fiddle brings things down to Earth. The Suite picks at traditions from Appalachia knocking hard on the Takoma and Folkways doors. The new record, Shackamaxon Concert, arrives February 9th from VHF.
