Drew Gardner – “Pollux”

A big week for Centripetal Force as they unveil another excellent offering for 2024. This time site favorite Drew Gardner (Elkhorn, The Heavy Lidders) sets up solo for an album steeped in cosmic jazz and shimmering rhythm. Just as the last Elkhorn album found Gardner straying from his reliance on guitar, Cygnus A sends the instrument slightly to the sidelines, with Drew bringing his work on zither and mbira into focus. Both are prominently positioned on “Pollux,” the album opener and first single. The cut lopes along on the mbira’s wagon wheel rhythm, while zither sparkles with resplendent joy. The album adopts a cosmic theme as well as tone, plotting out tracks that trace stars across the sky. The new album, Cygnus A, is out June 7th from Centripetal Force.
