Christine’s Cat – “Like A Summer’s Day”

Reissues in the current age tend to get a bit cyclical, recycling some of the same ol’ piles without a treasure in sight. However, there’s the occasional gem that makes you sit up and take notice again. This is one of those releases I would never have bet would hit the reissue market. Christine’s Cat is a name that might be unfamiliar to even the most ardent lover of ‘80s jangle pop. The band only had one proper release, a 5” Flexi that came in the mail along with a Sarah Records double fanzine Lemonade / Cold. You can read scans of both over at Sarah’s excellent archives. During the sessions for the fanzine, the band recorded more than just the released track, “Your Love Is…,” and a new 10” from Windmill Records seeks to get this one out into the right hands. Alongside the originally released Flexi track, the band offers up three other tracks. You can hear “Like A Summer’s Day” in the previously unreleased video above. Crusted with fuzz and buzzing with twee pop energy, the song is a pop treasure plucked from obscurity. Sarah heads and indie collectors rejoice, this one’s an essential.
