Cactus Lee – “Perfect Middle Hall”

While I found it late, Cactus Lee’s album Texas Music Forever was a delight that lasted well after 2021 was over. And just as that one sinks into the skin, it seems that another is on the rise. Kevin Dehan shares the first track from an upcoming LP, Perfect Middle Hall. The title track takes its place among his more somber numbers, a porch-light folk song that sinks over the horizon just before the crickets take hold of the night. His last album was split between full band and more stripped numbers, and this falls into the latter camp. What’s endearing about Cactus Lee, though, is that Dehan can make the most simple songs imprint on the mind, leaving a lingering ache as the last notes slip from the strings. The first single is out now on his Bandcamp.
