Boyracer

List season may be upon us, but there’s still work to do and a ton of releases to put on the speakers. Legacy janglers Boyracer return with their fifteenth LP, a breezy, buoyant LP that proves the band are better than ever. Still anchored by the effervescent songwriting of Stewart Anderson, the band rounds itself out this time with faces old and new. With members from Kids on a Crime Spree, Artsick, Bright Lights, and even the returning members from band’s own past, the new album is infused with the kind of power pop bounce that’s made them perennial favorites. The band’s original guitarist Simon Guild returns is back in the mix, and as a nod the band unearths a Sarah-era classic, refreshing “Cog” for a new new generation.

Alongside the catalog cover, there’s a new batch of boundless indie pop, fizzing with feedback touches, a wealth of strums, and the popcorn snap of percussion that pushes it through the speakers with boundless glee. The record pays homage to Boyracer’s noise-pop past, while making room for a fuller palette. 33 years on, the band still feels fresh, mining pop’s enduring spirit while serving as a guiding light for the current class of jangle-pop.
