Batry Powr – “Un1ty Flute”
Really digging the energy of this one. Batry Powr is the alter ego of Hundred Waters frontwoman Nicole Miglis, shifting her focus to longform ambient compositions. The cassette slipped out in December from Leaving Records, always an easy time to miss things. Thankfully she lets out a nice reminder about the cassette today with a video for title track “Un1ty Flute.” As the title might suggest, the track is solo flute, echoing somber and serene through field recorded birds and breezes. Miglis slips expectations, though, pairing the typical hi-jinks and highlights of a skate video with the song’s zen ripples. This hits in a lot of the same ways as the excellent Self Discovery for Social Survival comp from Mexican Summer which paired Surf footage with similarly blissed instrumentals from Allah Lahs, Dungen, and Peaking Lights. Batry Powr’s cassette is out now and the Bandcamp run has a bonus mix of the title track by Mikey Maleki of Kodak to Graph.
