Anna St. Louis – “Phone”

It’s been a little while since Anna St. Louis graced the speakers but from the sounds of “Phone” it’s been well worth the wait. In the intervening years St. Louis has relocated from the West Coast to Upstate, NY, letting the slower pace seep into the songs on In The Air. The first single finds her leaning into a summer aura, splashing the song with sunlight and warmth that mingles with the mountain air. The record was cut with with producer Jarvis Taveniere and a handful of familiar names fleshing out her band — Jess Williamson, Kacey Johansing, Oliver Hill (Kevin Morby, Vagabon) on strings, Alex Fischel (Spoon) on piano, Josh Adams on drums (Bedouine, Tim Heidecker) and Keven Lareau (Cut Worms, Hand Habits). The song’s yearning for long distance connection seeps right through the speakers, laden with a weariness at the thought of electronic connection. The new album is out June 9th from Woodsist.
