J. Zunz – “Silvia”
Following on a full length last year with her band Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, songwriter Lorena Quintanilla returns to her solo guise at Rocket with a scathing new single. A colonialist incitement, “Silvia” rings prescient in the midst of further U.S. overseas overreach. Paired with a punishing backdrop of industrial rhythms and charred guitars, the new single backs her northern neighbors into their own corroded corner. In an apt mirror of public vs private perception, the song swings from her air cooled vocals to scratched, desiccated noise. It’s a sonic mask slipping, a demand for accountability, and a scornful reflection of worldwide perception of imperialism. The single surfaces on her new album, Obsidiana, out May 29th from Rocket Recordings.
