The Crabs – “The World Can’t Bring You Down”

A fun collection is on the way from Anacortes family band The Crabs. The band was formed in the ‘90s by Jonn Lunsford and Lisa Jackson, with a slew of albums set sail on K Records. The band’s pulled back over the past decade or so, owing to a focus on family life, but as time has passed the family has been brought into the fold. From 2013 to 2019, the couple along with their kids Zinnia and Jackson, adding drums and keys respectively, have begun to eke out a collection of singles in two to three song bursts. Recording help from Nich Wilbur and Phil Elverum brought the songs to tape and now they’ve rounded up the past few years into a new comp called Years at the Unknown. Album opener “The World Can’t Bring You Down” finds the band as potent as ever, strumming with an indie pop prowess that’s a match for anything breezing out of the Oakland axis these days. The cloudy jangler lodges itself right into the back of the brain, a beautifully rainy day sigh of a song. The new collection is out August 15th from K Records.
