Zachary Cale – “Shatterstar”

Always a favorite around here, Zachary Cale just recently graced the site among the ranks of Vague Plot, but with “Shatterstar” he returns to his singer-songwriter roots. The song is the emotional center of his upcoming new album, Next Year’s Ghost. Where most of his works have hinged on guitar, the song finds Cale ruminating over somber piano lines and a slow shuffle of drums. An exploration of the restlessness of age, a rumination on regret, the song is one of Zachary’s most devastating. The song feels like a loss of faith in the world around you, tossing and turning at night, trying to push away the constant gnaw of tomorrow’s worries. Next Year’s Ghost is out May 24th from ORG Music.
