Thurston Moore & Bonner Kramer – “Urn Burial”
Another huge one from this week finds respective legends Thurston Moore and Bonner Kramer connecting for an album, forged as a series of requiems for the children of Gaza. The Sonic Youth founder and the producer responsible for the ambience of Galaxie 500, Low, and Half Japanese seem like a perfect fit, and it’s a wonder that they’ve not connected on this level prior. The set started out with a cover of Joy Division’s “Insight,” and the song would set the tone for the album’s theme’s. First taste, though, is a different sort. Inspired by the collaboration of John Cale and Terry Riley, “Urn Burial” rises from the ash, a charred, sinewy instrumental that’s layered in the anger of injustice. The track opens up the pair’s new collaboration, They Came Like Swallows – Seven Requiems for the Children of Gaza, out May 1st from Silver Current.
