Nashville outfit The Medium have been harnessing a sound that circles country without ever fully embracing it. More often picking up on ’70s singer-songwriter touchstones, the band layers harmonies over an Americana sway, grasping a classic cantor infused with a huge helping of pop. The band’s third album offers up a gateway single with “City Life.” Nodding to Nillsson, by way of Fleetwood Mac, the cut captures a clean aired dewiness that comes through in its bittersweet bleat and mirror-edged guitars. The new record, City Life, is out August 23rd from Earth Libraries.
