The Cosmic Tones Research Trio – “A Sleeping Planet”

A new gem on the way from Mississippi Records shines a light on a Portland trio bringing together three local shepherds of cosmic tone — alto sax player and composer Roman Norfleet, cellist and multi-instrumentalist Harlan Silverman, and pianist Kennedy Verrett. The first dip into their upcoming record, All Is Sound, is the meditative slink of “A Sleeping Planet.” Led by Norfleet’s pillowy sax, the song reverberates around the headspace, cavernous and calm. The band taps into meditative modes and spiritual jazz, feeling like kindred spirits to Carlos Niño, Cole Pulice, Black Decelerant, and YAI as they channel Pharaoh, Alice, and Sun Ra. The new record, All Is Sound, is out November 1st from Mississippi.
