Styrofoam Winos – “Pearls”

Always delighted to see new music from Styrofoam Winos. The trio, Joe Kenkel, Trevor Nikrant, and Lou Turner, masterfully blends folk, country, and pop into a potent potion on “Pearls.” The band latched hard to my heart with their selt-titled record in 2021 and they haven’t let go since. The band’s charms lie in their ability to perfect the imperfect, to tousle and tease at pop’s junctions until they feel lived in and light. Like Yo La Tengo before them, the group’s ability to make mood ring shifts through genre is a delight, turning dollar bin desires into eclectic classics. With a hint of twang and a radiator hum of New Wave, “Pearls” enters a new treasure into their trove. The upcoming record, Any River, is out June 19th from Dear Life.
