STOP MVP: Artists From WV, VA & NC Against The Mountain Valley Pipeline

Avatar

This comp was announced a bit earlier in the week, but I wanted to wait until the whole thing was available to stream, as its quite a collection to behold. Organized by WarHen Records, the compilation is a fundraiser to help efforts of the Appalachian Legal Defense Fund in support of people fighting against the construction of the Mountain Valley Pipeline. The set brings together artists from West Virginia, Virginia, and North Carolina, including quite a few RSTB familiar folks: Daniel Bachman, Nathan Bowles, Sally Anne Morgan, Yasmin Williams, and Magic Tuber Stringband. The latter is a nice tie to another excellent compilation put together by MTS as a fundraiser for Stop Cop City. Both comps feature the band embracing their vocal work, which I’ve always found captivating. “Undone In Sorrow” finds Courtney Werner taking the lead, with a mournful delivery matching the song’s title. The song, made most notable by Ola Belle Reed, is steeped in the traditions and tribulations of the region, and Magic Tuber Stringband are perfect to bring it to a new audience. Both compilations are worth your attention today, especially as all sales go directly to labels and artists, so the maximum will be raised for the respective causes.
