Smirk – “Hopeless”

Avatar

The second single swings into view from Los Angeles outfit Smirk. “Hopeless” is an infectious bit of jangle-punk that finds songwriter Nick Vicario skirting the line between hardscrabble indie and the faded forms of punk’s shadow. The song stands out among the offerings on Material, the Feel It debut from the band. Laden with a guitar crunch and acoustic power strum counterpoint, the song works its whiplash between hard-nodding hooks and a darker drive that pushes the song away from pop’s spotlight glare. Material finds its way out November 18th from Feel It.
