Shaki Tavi – “Foam”

A second single from Shaki Tavi solidifies the new record’s hold on the summer. Lost in the froth of shoegaze, “Foam” is a beautiful blast of oblivion. Stripping the psyche clean, the cut doubles down on the Chapterhouse vibes from first single, “Breaker,” but dredges up a sinister undercurrent and a darker growl of guitars. There’s always a few trying to snag the heft of shoegaze’s past, but Shaki Tavi wields the churn of Swervedriver, JAMC, and the aforementioned Chapterhouse better than most of their peers. Despite a deeper drape of damage, “Foam” is actually as close to pop’s sun as Shaki Tavi gets, sneaking a nicely barbed hook in under the turbulence. The new album, Minor Slip, is out August 15th from Felte.
