São Paulo’s Sessa finds a balance between the West Coast’s sunwash psychedelics, Tropicália fallout, and the lush air surrounding Quartin releases like José Mauro. On “Gostar do Mundo” the lull of guitar plucks surface through a haze of strings, swooning background vocals, and a humid aura that wraps around the song. While Sessa never quite indlges in the trappings of psychedelia proper, there’s a feeling of sinking into his songs. The carpet grows deeper, the chair’s plush strengthens its pull as the song wears on. It’s easy to get lost in the dream that Sessa creates, and “Gostar do Mundo” is a prime example of what he does best. The track is hte first single off of an upcoming new album, Estrela Acesa, out June 24th, on Mexican Summer.
