Sean Thompson – “Setting In”
While the name Sean Thompson might be synonymous with the best strains of psychedelic country, the Nashville guitarist has long proven a mercurial soul with an adept handle on any genre he touches. Last Year’s excellent debut from Shrunken Elvis proved a penchant for Kosmiche journeys, but his latest swerve finds him deep in the embrace of fusion, tackling the slickness of ECM-era improv. Quicksilver guitar runs, funk fringes, and an explorer’s heart permeate the pores of Inner Principles, Sean’s new album recorded with the help of Jake Davis, Alec Newman, Eric Slick, Jo Schornikow, and his forever foil Rich Ruth. The new record is out now direct from Thompson, an perfectly primed to get deep into the weekend.
