Scions – “Fight Song”
The good folks over at Idée Fixe have brought together a massive collective of Canadian talent for their latest work, incorporating members of New Hermitage, Joyful Joyful, and producer and composer Michael Cloud Duguay. The project was born of a one-off collaboration for a New Brunswirck festival and expanded into a full-length that tackles environmental and political collapse. Recorded in the sanctuary of St. George’s Round Church, the ensemble allows their sound to envelop folk, drone, ambient, jazz, and post-rock in a stunning amalgam of composition and crumble. Of first single vocalist Cormac Culkeen notes, “Fight Song” became the song we thought the last of us might need. It is sung for an imagined last stand. It is a rallying cry to wholeheartedly fight a losing battle. So it is for us now, in this time of great dismay and unease. The axe must be disobeyed.” The band’s debut album, To Cry Out In The Wilderness, arrives November 8th from Idée Fixe Records.
