Sam Blasucci – “Witching Hour”

Longtime favorites Mapache have been a staple around here, but the band’s Sam Blasucci has held down some space solo as well, hitting the speakers with a debut last year that brought a bit of ‘70s slink to his sound. The last record found some AOR softness rotating under the disco lights and he continues to mine similar territory on the first single from an upcoming follow-up. “Witching Hour” luxuriates under the neon flicker of late night nuances, rolled in piano and punctured with rhythms that unfold in a long mid-section breakdown. The pop drapes Sam’s songs nicely and it serves as a coifed counterpoint to his Canyon-dusted work with Mapache from last year. The new record, Real Life Thing, out November 1st, from Calico Discos/Innovative Leisure.
