Population II – “Magouilleux”

Returning after a busy 2025, RSTB faves Population II follow up their last album and a year-ender collaboration with Yoo II and Nolan Potter with a new EP on the way this spring. First taste, “Magouilleux” has a bit more prog in its bones than the band’s had in the past, though they’ve always hinted at it through the veil of their psych vortices. The track pulses into view on synths and strums, permeated with fragrant atmospheres. As the cut cures, it grows darker, scratched by serrated talons of guitar. Hard to tell from just the one inroad here, but the EP seems to be stitched together with a seamless flow, the kind of panoramic visions that made their recent collaborative record essential. The new EP, Gimmicks, is out April 3rd from Bonsound.
