Plastic Family – Love & Heartbreak In High School b/w TV Screen

The a-side from this has cropped up a couple of times on the site already, making its way into the recent power pop mixtape and this month’s radio show, but today marks its official release. Plastic Family picks up members of a whole bunch of familiar names from the Dutch scene, including Fleur, MOOON, Frankie’s Strange Machine, and The Hook. Together they push aside some of their more paisley inclinations and psych-pop pasts for an earnest take on ‘70s power pop. The A-side has a nice crunch to it, pulling in some glam-adjacent vibes and mixing them with pure distillation of Milk n’ Cookies’ lovable underdog qualities. The flip adds in a squiggle of synth pop that cuts coupons from The Twinkeyz alongside more classic cues from The Raspberries and Supertramp. It’s a nice first entry into their canon, and one I hope leads to more down the road.
