Mikaela Davis – “(Looking Through) Rose Colored Glasses”
Big news for local fave Mikaela Davis today as she announces her new album for Kill Rock Stars. The Catskill songwriter’s spent the last few years vaulting to fame far afield, cutting records with Southern Star and Circles Around The Sun, finding her best footing splicing Cosmic Americana into her early pop parlance. Southern Star doesn’t anchor the album this time around, but while Davis’ name is alone on the marquee, she’s far from lonesome in the studio. The new single features guest vocals from Tim Heidecker and Madison Cunningham, helping turn Davis’ bittersweet country charmer into one of the best songs of the year so far. Saturated steel and her ethereal harp playing ensconce the three-part harmonies with Heidecker and Cunningham, soaring through the speakers like the first breath of Spring. Elsewhere the album features work from Clay Finch (Mapache), Neal Francis, James Felice (The Felice Brothers), and Dan Horne, who also produces. The new album, Graceland Way, is out April 24th from Kill Rock Stars.
