Horse Lords – “Eureka 378-B / Brain of the Firm”

Something to shake the hinges on a Tuesday morning, as perennial favorites Horse Lords return to RVNG with a new album this year! The band’s first taste of the album is a double shot that pairs the haunting, processed vocals of Nina Guo and Evelyn Saylor with a historical bent, tracing an arrangement of 19th century sacred harp music into the pulsing vortex of “Brain of the Firm.” The latter is a bit more reminiscent of the Lords’ turbulent textures, but it too branches off into a few new triangulations of sound. The band has been holed up a IRCAM (Institute for Research and Coordination in Acoustics/Music) during their stint in France and they brings some inspiration from their tenure there for the rhythm. Syncopated and snarled, the song ricochets the listener around their crystalline creation. The new album, Demand to Be Taken to Heaven Alive! is out June 12th from RVNG, Intl.
