Golden Brown – “Y Despues”

Just off a year-end list slot, Colorado’s Golden Brown is back with a new album at his now consistent home of Inner Islands. Weird Choices wanders further afield from Stephen Beck’s guitar excursions, adding in liberal washes of cosmic synth, and dawn-air ambiance. The label offers up a few inroads to the new cassette, but “Y Despues,” captures the new directions quite nicely, placing Beck’s stringwork into a quivering cocoon of echo that lights the speakers up with an amber glow. The new album feels made for late nights and early mornings, the kind of moments when the stillness is unspoiled and the fog of dreams still hangs over the world’s collective consciousness. Weird Choices is out February 3rd.
