Futuropaco – “Crollo Capitalista”

All right, playing a little bit of catch up after some time away last week. The day starts out strong with a new track from Futuropaco. The band has always held up the more cinematic end of the El Paraiso stable, dipping into the aura of Italian Film and Library Music while splashing the speakers with a heady dose of psych as well. One of the rare Americans in the Danish label’s stable, the band is the solo endeavor of Oakland’s Justin Pinkerton (Golden Void), who anchors the outfit with tight funk-strung drumming and a wide array of fuzz-soaked guitars and organ. The newest offering is a follow up to 2023’s Fortezza Di Vetro, a song cycle dedicated to the fragility of political superpowers; not an untimely topic given the current state of things. “Crollo Capitalista” or Capitalist Collapse, winds the listener through back channels of groove, drenched in fuzz and dread. The cut crops up on Vol. 2 of Fortezza Di Vetro, out in March from El Paraiso Records.
