Exploding Flowers – “Crowded Streets”

Only a couple of days into the year and RSTB faves Meritorio Records are already back at it with a new single from Exploding Flowers and word of a third album from the Los Angeles band on the way in March. The band, headed by Sharif Dumani (Nick Garrie, Jowe Head, Nikki Sudden), connects power pop threads through the years, feeling both familiar and fresh. “Crowded Streets” fleshes out the crunch of guitars and crash of drums with a flush of keys and an unexpected splash of vibraphone. The big pop ambitions are balanced with a bit of scuff that makes this one feel like a lost treasure. The new album, Watermelon/Peacock, is rife with cameos that speak to the breadth of Dumani’s career, including appearances from Dolly Mixures’s Rachel Love and Jowe Head (Swell Maps, Television Personalities). The new album is out March 21st from Meritorio and Leather Jacket.
