A second single wafts off the upcoming En Attendant Ana record and it’s pushing some new territory for the band. With a Bossa beat and a quicksilver soul, the song shifts and slips through modes of indie, psych, Tropicália, and jazz. “Same Old Story” explores themes of being locked in a social bubble, condemned to constantly bounce the same ideas and interests back and forth without growth. The band eschews that fate here. While past albums have rooted themselves in an indie upbringing, they’ve never been ones for stagnation. Here there are hints at a fascination with Broadcast and Stereolab, reaching into the avant-pop past and refashioning it for a new era. Principia is out February 24th from Trouble In Mind.
