Caravan 222 – Country Bangers

It’s a day for catching up, and hell, I’m the first to admit my own blind spots and correct my errant ways. Filling in the gaps on some excellent EPS from West Coast wrangles Caravan 222 this week as the band opens up for Curation Recs newcomer Alex Koford and the newly formed K.C. Breakdowns. The band finds comforts in canyon country, bending through the heat-ripple haze of the Burritos, New Riders, and Commander Cody. While the opener on the EP, “Good Times,” brings the breeze, the second shot, “Daniella,” hangs a heavier heart and a good dose of steel on the affair. Then the band takes things deep into the cosmic cloud on closer “Coyote Nights,” a song that downplays the twang, tying the band’s bolo banter to a headier heat. These five songs breeze by with a sun-dipped charm, and it’s easy to feel the band’s worn-in, bar-tested chops coming through in every note on the record. The release is titled Country Bangers, and rightly so. If you’re out Western Ways, catch ‘em at Gold Diggers in a couple of weeks, and if not, then this will have to suffice.
