Beefheart & McQuinn – “Yesterdays & Younger Days”

Not enough chatter about this one on the US side of the globe, but Aussie duo Beefheart & McQuinn are quickly jumping to the top of my anticipated albums list. The pair brings together longtime RSTB fave Winter Mcquinn (Sunfruits) with UK export William Murray (Fur), running under his Moby Beefheart moniker. The two find common ground in the raglan comforts of the ‘70s, paring close harmonies and soft strums with an AOR sensibility that dips back towards Harrison’s solo years. There’s comfort baked into the batch of songs on their upcoming album Midtown Downtime, and nowhere is it more evident than on new single “Yesterdays & Younger Days,” a lilting lament to the passage of time. The single slips out on their new album out May 8th from Rainflower Records.
