Fuses – “Garden of Ashes”

An excellent new cut today that comes courtesy of a familiar name in a new guise. Fuses brings together Motorists’ Craig Fahner with Swedish drummer and bassist Moa-Linn Rösenlof (Orkan, Spela Död). The band’s first single shifts expectations from those familiar with Fahner from Motorists, through. Setting aside power pop, the new group is immersed in downy Canyon Country, layering soft vocal harmonies over wood-lacqured strums and the distant cry of pedal steel. The sepia tones fit this one in with the upswing of artists donning the fringe of the West Coast during the Nixon years. File this on the shelf next to Hot Apple Band, The Bures Band, and Beefheart & McQuinn. The new record, Sawdust in the Transmission, is out June 19th from Having Fun Records.
