Haylie Davis – “Wandering Star”

Well, if you’ve been around here for some time, then the name Haylie Davis has likely become familiar. Emerging from her moniker, Lady Apple Tree, Davis signed to Fire Records with a string of singles that now have a home. Her debut album has just been announced this week, along with the title track, “Wandering Star.” The new single skews less country, but still keeps the classic ‘70s folk and pop touches that have become her hallmarks. The song tiptoes in on piano and Davis’ resonant voice; echoes of Ronstadt and Carole King hung fragrant on the air. The song builds, a sweetly simple elegy, bruised, but buoyant. It nestles in nicely among the other strong singles that have led the way up to the album. That record, Wandering Star, is out June 5th from Fire Records.
