Magus – “Exodus”

Just on the tail of his excellent solo album, and still in the shadow of last year’s essential issue of Grass’ lost LP, Greg Weeks returns to the news around here with a new group. Featuring Jessica Weeks (The Valerie Project), Jesse Sparhawk (Fern Knight), and Ben McConnell (Grass), the stacked lineup plumbs the well of medieval folk, folk-horror, and prog for an album that’s drenched in gothic drama. The first single, “Exodus,” gallops out of the gate with a stately stride, an ornate tapestry streaked in soot, blood, and bile. Keys curdle the air, guitars smoke in acrid plumes, and Greg and Jessica unravel tales like bards wounded in battle. The new album, Music for Mandrax, is out April 17th from the newly revived Language of Stone.
