Winged Wheel – “Speed Table”

RSTB faves Winged Wheel bring some exciting news this morning as they announce a follow up to their 2024 stunner, set for release in early 2026. The band, featuring members of Spray Paint, Powers/Rolin Duo, Matchess, Tyvek, and Sonic Youth, scorched both stages and studios over the past couple of years and, if you’ve caught them in the live setting, the new songs have been pushing even further towards the blissful embrace of noise. The first taste of the upcoming album, Desert So Green, is the brittle double edge of “Speed Table.” Welding razored riffs that slice through the fog, the song draws blood before Whitney Johnson’s hushed vocals anesthetize the ache. The rhythm-forward whirlwind of Big Hotel is scaled back in favor of something more tensile, more sculptural. The band is never in danger of stagnating, and the latest moves them towards a more experimental and academic approach to their tempest. The new record, Desert Turns Green, is out January 9th from 12xU.
