Sunday Mourners – “Careers In Acting”

From some of the year-end histrionics, you’d swear no one was making rock records anymore and current-day Brooklyn just rescued it by digging through their moms’ basements. Real searchers know that the angles and jangles have always been out there if you just have the time to look. Case in point; West Coasters Sunday Mourners have been hooked into the kind of crushed metal art-scuffed riffs that have reared and retreated in waves since Verlaine and Hell were getting into spats on stage. The band’s latest single pairs insistent, twitching guitars with the sweet sneer and aloof veneer of the early aughts, boiling over without being bothered about it. The new single sits pretty on the band’s upcoming debut, A-Rhythm Absolute, out January 16th from Curation Records.
