Strange Passage – “Hunter’s Fancy”

While Slumberland and Skep Wax have proven a potent combo for indie pop this year, as usual, Meritorio is running neck and neck with them for new favorites. The latest from the label is from US janglers Strange Passage. The band nods to past heroes with the etched nuances of The Feelies in their veins, while snipping a touch of darkness from The Church and The Verlaines. The band’s first single feels like it would have easily fit among the college radio fodder of the late ‘80s, a furrowed flurry of strums underpinned by the crack of drums. It’s those painted hues bound to their Bunnymen guitars near the end that really make this one stick out above their more sketch by numbers peers. File this close to the new album from The Laughing Chimes as you streak a little liner under your eyes. The band’s new album, A Folded Sky, is out November 7th from Meritorio Records.
