Papir – “IX.I”

Another Copenhagen favorite returns this week with the announcement of a new album from Papir. Following an excellent album from Nicklas Sørensen’s Edena Gardens earlier in the year, the guitarist reunites with his more well known outfit for the band’s first since 2022. Like the Gardens, Papir revel in the free-flowing overlap between jazz, psych, post-rock, and the further reaches of the cosmic kingdom. The band’s latest is set up in movements, all part of the larger whole. Album opener “IX.I” might fit in with the post-rock roost the best, building to ecstatic heights over the thunder and rumble of drums. Sørensen’s guitars soar, a buoy for the spirit and a beacon in an age of darkness. The new record, IX, is out November 21st from Stickman Records.
