Outer World – “The Drum Beat”

Avatar

For their second single out of the excellent new debut as Outer World, the band offers up a high concept video, complete with a news station takeover with riotous results. The band formed as a new endeavor for Kenneth Close and Tracy Wilson of Positive No and it swerves away from the band’s post-punk prickle. Instead the band dives into the smoke and synth worlds of Broadcast, Fifty Foot Hose, and The United States of America. “The Drum Beat” brings an anxious edge to the plate — crinkle cut drums pulsing under thick bass and a fog roll of keys. Been a while since a video had a good cast of characters and the band brings the kind of saturated color and concept that’s been absent for a while in the art form. The new album, Who Does the Music Love?, is out March 22nd from Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records.
