Outer World – “Forms of Knowing”

Avatar

The latest outing from Tracy Wilson (Dahlia Seed, Positive No) and Kenneth Close (Positive No) finds the band shifting from some of the more brazen pop of their past into a new focus on psych-pop with dry ice in its veins. After a bout of Covid dampened Wilson’s ability to belt as she had before, the pair refocused on more coiled sounds and a love for the fractured intersections of jazz, psych-pop, Krautrock, post-punk, and ‘60s lounge. With admitted nods to Broadcast and a bedrock of beats that chew through the Can catalog and Ghost Box’s deep recesses, the record finds the pair in new environs, but sounding completely comfortable there. The new album, Who Does The Music Love?, Is out March 22nd from Happy Happy Birthday To Me.
