Natural Magic – “Don’t Look Back”

Despite heavier links to the electronic sphere, this new single from Portland’s Natural Magic ought to have heavy appeal to fans of Moon Duo, Tuluum Shimmering, and the recent outing from Bobby Lee and Joe Harvey-Whyte. The record bears the distinction of being the last record rubber stamped by Optimo’s JD Twitch for his label before his passing this year. Feeling a bit of an outlier on Optimo Music, the first single from the Portland duo leans largely towards the psychedelic burble of ‘70s German Progressives, only barely hinting at the pair’s past in party live in the Northwest. “Don’t Look Back” opens with the caress of keys, a hypnotic beat and a slight scorch of guitar. The track tumbles towards the cosmos, a beautifully bucolic burble that’s tapped into things far from terrestrial. The duo’s new album, II, is out January 30th from Optimo Music.
